East Coast MP Anne Tolley has welcomed the announcement of $120 million for Gisborne as part of the Government’s National Land Transport Programme.

“The investment in Gisborne’s roads and bridges will help to unlock the region’s potential as trucks will be able to carry heavier loads between Te Araroa and Tologa Bay. This means fewer trucks on our roads,” Mrs Tolley says.

“This is fantastic news for our regional economy and means a safer and more productive transport industry.”

The package includes $96 million for the upkeep for the districts roads, $1.5 million for public transport and a $5 million investment in cycling and walking in Gisborne.

“The National Land Transport Programme’s a strong statement that this Government is committed to regional New Zealand, and I’m certainly pleased to see the local benefits of that here,” Mrs Tolley says.

“This investment in the Gisborne region will boost our economy with more jobs, better access to our port and resilient and safe highways.”

An announcement around Motu Bridge is yet to come and will be in addition to the $120 million announcement.
