East Coast MP Anne Tolley congratulates Te Puna Reo o Puhi Kaiti on winning the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

“The centre strives to develop rangatiratanga in its tamariki, in a te reo Māori immersion environment and I thank them for their hard work with our young Gisborne tamariki,” Ms Tolley said.

“This early childhood education centre has been part of the Gisborne community since 2009 and has developed a strong sense of community.  Every child is empowered to achieve in all areas, in a whānau style of learning which encompasses Ngati Porou dialect and kawa.

“I want to congratulate the centre on their commitment to the local tamariki and their success with these young learners, which is recognised by them winning this award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

“National’s unrelenting focus has been, and continues to be, on raising achievement for all our learners, whatever the age.

“The Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards are a true recognition and testament to our hard-working education professionals.”

The awards cover early childhood education, primary, through to secondary schooling.  For more information visit: www.pmawards.education.govt.nz.
